Fabriano, 1st February 2008 – Indesit Company continues to collect awards, this time outside Europe: the Chicago Athenaeum - Museum of Architecture and Design has given the Giugiaro designed Moon the 2007 Good Design Award in the “Bathroom” category, hailing it as a new concept, high-performance washing machine with a strong personality and a striking and innovative design suiting it to any part of the home, an object of furnishing in its own right.
Set up in 1950, the Good Design Awards, focusing on the avant-garde in industrial design, are organized by the Chicago Athenaeum – Museum of Architecture and Design, one of Chicago’s most prestigious cultural institutions and the only museum of architecture and design in the United States, in collaboration with the European Centre for Architecture, Art, Design and Urban Studies (Dublin and Athens) and the Metropolitan Arts Press.
The categories examined in 2007 were electronics, robotics, sports equipment, products for infants, furnishing, office products, industrial, textile and automotive products, urban architecture, kitchens, bathrooms, domestic appliances, lighting, hardware, graphics and packaging. The 2007 Awards chose the companies that produced the best new developments since 2005, products that have changed for the better our environment and way of living and working.
Over 400 projects from 33 nations across six continents were submitted to a panel of experts from all over the world who assessed them in terms of innovation, form, materials, functions and utility, privileging the energy and vitality of contemporary design in order to encourage manufacturers and designers to improve standards and quality in industrial design.
This award is the latest in a long series collected by the Moon as best product in terms of technological performance and design for the home. Only a few days ago, it was included in the Best of the Best ranking published by the prestigious Greek fashion, design and luxury magazine, and was judged “product of the year” by Get Connected, a UK consumer electronics and home technology magazine. In 2007, it won the Grand Prix de l’Innovation (Paris) in the design category, the Janus de l’Industrie (Institut Français du Design), the Designer Award in the UK as “Kitchen Product of the Year”, and the Zlota Villa awarded by “Villa”, a prestige Polish interior design magazine.
